A plain black-and-white grid works fine, but a logo sitting in the middle of the code is what makes someone glance at it and immediately know whose it is — without needing a caption. Unqode SmartQR handles the part that would otherwise make this risky.
How to add one
- 1Open a QR code you're editing, or start creating a new one, and get to the Customize Design step.
- 2Find the Logo / Icon section.
- 3Click to upload — the field accepts a PNG or JPG, up to 2MB.
- 4The logo appears centred in the live preview immediately; save your changes to keep it.
What happens to error correction
The moment a logo is added, Unqode SmartQR automatically bumps the error correction level to High (30%) — you'll see a small note confirming this in the logo panel. That 30% figure means up to that share of the code's modules can be obscured or damaged and it still decodes correctly, which is exactly what makes covering the centre with a logo safe rather than reckless. Remove the logo and it drops back to Medium automatically.
Sizing your logo well
- Keep it to roughly 25–30% of the code's total area — much bigger and you're leaning on error correction more than it can reliably cover
- A logo with a solid background reproduces more cleanly than a busy transparent PNG with fine detail around the edges
- Avoid intricate detail in the mark itself — anything fine enough to blur at small print sizes will just look muddy
- Square or circular marks tend to sit more naturally in the centre than long, wide logos
Always scan-test after adding a logo, on your own phone, before sending anything to print. If it hesitates or fails, try a smaller logo relative to the code, or increase the overall code size rather than fighting it at the same dimensions.
Plan requirement
Logo embedding is available on Pro and Business. On the Free plan, that section shows a lock and an upgrade prompt instead of the upload field — you still get the colour and template customisation, just not a logo.
