Expiry dates and scan limits let a QR code shut itself off on a schedule you define, instead of you having to remember to deactivate it manually the day an offer ends.
Expiry date
Set a date and time after which the code stops redirecting on its own. Anyone scanning past that point sees a "This QR code has expired" message instead of the destination.
- 1Open the QR code in the editor (Pro plan required) and go to Advanced Options.
- 2Switch on the Expiry Date toggle.
- 3Pick a date — the picker won't let you choose one that's already passed — and save.
Once the date passes, the code flips to inactive in your dashboard automatically. To bring it back, remove the expiry date and save; there's no separate "reactivate" step needed beyond that.
Scan limit
Set a maximum number of scans; once that count is hit, the code deactivates and shows a "Scan limit reached" message to anyone after.
- 1Open the QR code in the editor (Pro plan required) and go to Advanced Options.
- 2Switch on the Scan Limit toggle.
- 3Enter the maximum scan count and save.
Where these actually help
- Flash sale — set the expiry for midnight on the last day, and forget about turning it off manually
- Event access — set the scan limit to your venue's attendee capacity
- Limited offer — a fixed number of redemptions, first come first served, self-enforcing
- Seasonal campaign — the code winds itself down at the end of the season without you touching it again
Combine both on the same code for extra control — it deactivates on whichever condition hits first, so you can set a generous scan limit as a safety net behind a hard expiry date, or vice versa.
