Why it works

Why use an image gallery qr code?

One code replaces a printed photo sheet, and can hold as many images as you want to show.

The set of images can be swapped for a new season or a new property without reprinting anything.

Visitors browse at their own pace, on a screen, at full resolution — which is how people actually look at photos.

Scan data tells you which printed placements are drawing genuine interest.

What it is

What is an Image Gallery QR Code?

An image gallery QR code opens a page showing a set of photographs in a responsive grid, which visitors can tap to view full size. You supply the images as links to files already hosted online, and the gallery displays them in the order you list them. Because the code is dynamic, the set of photos can be changed at any time without reprinting.

Printed materials are expensive per square centimetre, which is why they show one photograph when the subject deserves twelve. An estate agent's window card shows the front of the house. A caterer's menu describes a dish in six words. A furniture showroom tag shows one colourway of five. In each case the constraint is the paper, not the availability of pictures.

A gallery code moves the pictures off the paper. The printed item does the job print is good at — being physically present at the moment of interest — and the phone does the job screens are good at, which is showing as many high-resolution images as someone wants to scroll through.

Print shows one photograph because paper is expensive. The subject usually deserves twelve.

Getting started

How to create one, step by step

1

Host your images somewhere

Your own website, a cloud drive with direct links, or any image host. You'll paste the direct link to each image.

2

Add one image URL per line

They appear in the gallery in the order you list them, so put the strongest photo first.

3

Give the gallery a title

A short title and description sit above the grid — 'Spring collection' or '14 Oakfield Road — interior'.

4

Print the code and update the photos as needed

New season, new listing, new stock: change the image list, and the printed code shows the new set.

Getting it right

Best practices for image gallery qr codes

The code itself rarely goes wrong — how it's set up and where it's placed is what determines whether people actually use it.

Lead with your strongest image

The gallery shows photos in the order you list them, and the first one sets the expectation for the rest. Put the shot that made someone stop walking at the top.

Resize before you link

A 12-megapixel photo straight off a camera takes a long time to load on mobile data. Around 1,500 pixels on the long edge looks sharp on a phone and loads quickly.

Use direct image links, not sharing pages

A link that opens a cloud-drive preview page won't display. You need the direct file URL — the one that ends in .jpg, .png or .webp.

Keep the set tight

Twelve considered photographs get looked at. Sixty do not. The gallery has no limit, but attention does.

Questions

Frequently asked questions about image gallery qr codes

Not currently — the gallery takes links to images that are already hosted online, so you'd need them on your website, a cloud drive with direct-link sharing, or an image host first. Direct upload isn't something we offer yet, and we'd rather say so plainly than have you find out mid-setup.
