Create Video QR Codes for Free
Link a video to any printed surface, and change which video it plays without reprinting.
Why it works
Why use a video qr code?
Demonstrations beat instructions — assembly, setup, and technique are far easier to show than to describe in a printed diagram.
The video can be replaced at any time. A new tutorial, a re-shot demo, or an updated campaign cut all reuse the same printed code.
Hosting on YouTube or Vimeo costs you nothing and streams from their infrastructure, so a popular video doesn't become an expense.
Every scan is tracked, so you learn whether the code on the packaging is actually being used or is just decoration.
What it is
What is a Video QR Code?
A video QR code opens a mobile-friendly page with your video playing on it. Paste a YouTube or Vimeo link and it embeds automatically; paste a direct link to an .mp4 or .webm file and it plays in the phone's native video player instead. Because it's a dynamic code, the video behind it can be swapped later without touching anything you've already printed.
The reason this type exists is that print is static and instructions rarely are. A diagram on the side of a flat-pack box has to explain in pictures what a thirty-second clip explains in one take. A poster for a film can show a still; it can't show the trailer. A wine label can list a region; it can't walk you through the vineyard. The QR code is the bridge between the object in someone's hands and the footage that actually explains it.
The practical advantage over printing a URL is that nobody types a URL from a box. The practical advantage over a static code is that video gets replaced — a product gets a new tutorial, a campaign gets a new cut, a company rebrands. With a dynamic code the sticker on the box outlives all of that.
“A diagram has to explain in pictures what thirty seconds of footage explains in one take.”

Getting started
How to create one, step by step
Paste your video link
A YouTube or Vimeo URL embeds automatically. A direct link to a hosted .mp4 or .webm file plays in the browser's own video player.
Add a title and caption
Both appear under the player. Keep the title concrete — 'How to attach the legs' beats 'Product video'.
Print the code where the question comes up
On the box, beside the machine, on the shelf edge — wherever someone is standing when they need the demonstration.
Swap the video whenever it changes
Update the link in your dashboard. The printed code keeps working and now plays the new video.

Getting it right
Best practices for video qr codes
The code itself rarely goes wrong — how it's set up and where it's placed is what determines whether people actually use it.
Say what the video is, right next to the code
'Scan to watch the 2-minute setup' outperforms a bare code by a wide margin. People decide whether to scan based on what you promise, and a runtime sets the expectation honestly.
Keep it short and skip the intro
Someone scanning a box in their hallway is not settling in. Start at the demonstration — the branded title sequence is what makes them close the tab.
Prefer YouTube or Vimeo over a self-hosted file
They handle streaming, adaptive quality on poor connections, and mobile playback quirks. A raw .mp4 on your own server will struggle on a weak mobile signal.
Check it on an actual phone before printing
Some videos are restricted from embedding, and a private or unlisted-with-restrictions link can fail silently. Scan your own code once before it goes to print.

Questions
Frequently asked questions about video qr codes
Not currently — you paste a link to a video that's already online. For most people that's a YouTube or Vimeo URL, which is also the better option: they handle the streaming, so a video that gets popular doesn't cost you anything.
