Why it works

Why use a upi payment qr code?

Works with every UPI app, because it uses the standard UPI format rather than anything proprietary.

No card machine, no rental, no per-transaction hardware — printed paper is the whole setup.

The code never expires and never depends on this platform staying available, since the payment details are in the code itself.

A fixed amount removes mis-typed payments for set-price situations; leaving it blank suits variable bills.

What it is

What is a UPI Payment QR Code?

A UPI payment QR code encodes your UPI ID and opens the payer's banking app with your details already filled in. It works with every UPI app — Google Pay, PhonePe, Paytm, BHIM and any bank's own app — because it uses the standard UPI format rather than anything specific to us. You can fix an amount or leave it blank for the payer to enter.

This type works differently from every other code on Unqode SmartQR, and it's worth understanding why. Payment apps read the payment details directly off the code itself — they don't follow a link. That means a UPI code cannot route through a tracking redirect the way a URL code does, so it is always a static code, and there are no scan analytics for it.

The trade is a good one. In exchange for not being trackable, the code has no dependency on us at all: it will keep working as long as your UPI ID is active, regardless of what happens to your account, your plan, or this platform. For something printed on a shopfront and used to take money, that independence is the right property to want.

It can't be tracked, because payment apps read it directly. In exchange, it works forever with no dependency on us.

Getting started

How to create one, step by step

1

Enter your UPI ID

Your VPA — the address that looks like name@bank. Check it carefully, because this is what the money goes to.

2

Add a payee name

Shown in the payer's app so they can see they're paying the right business before confirming.

3

Fix an amount, or leave it blank

A fixed amount suits a set price or a specific invoice. Blank lets the customer type what they owe.

4

Download and print it

Counter, table tent, invoice, delivery bag, or a stall sign. Nothing else to set up.

In practice

Restaurants

a code on the bill folder for paying at the table.

Getting it right

Best practices for upi payment qr codes

The code itself rarely goes wrong — how it's set up and where it's placed is what determines whether people actually use it.

Test with a one-rupee payment before printing

Scan your own code and send the smallest possible amount to confirm it reaches the right account. A typo in a VPA is invisible on the printed code and expensive to discover later.

Print the UPI ID underneath in readable text

It lets a customer verify they're paying the right business, and gives them a fallback if their camera struggles with the code in poor light.

Leave the amount blank unless the price is truly fixed

A fixed-amount code is wrong the moment your price changes, and a customer can't adjust it. For anything variable, let them enter the figure.

Laminate anything that lives on a counter

A payment code gets handled, spilled on, and scanned hundreds of times a week. A scuffed code fails to scan at exactly the wrong moment.

Questions

Frequently asked questions about upi payment qr codes

Because payment apps read the UPI details straight off the code rather than following a link, so there's nothing for us to route through and count. Every other type on Unqode SmartQR can be tracked; this one genuinely can't, and we'd rather say that clearly than have you discover it after printing.
